CLOS SAINT DENIS
2020
- Description of the appellation
The first mention of Morey dates back to 1120. In the 14th century, it was a place of refuge for the monks of Cîteaux, who probably owned a lot of vines and even a winery as early as 1306. The appellation extends from Chambolle-Musigny to Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines adjoin the Clos de la Roche and are planted on clay-limestone soil. Clos Saint-Denis is the most delicate of the village wines; it is based on a mixture of clay and brown limestone which gives it its charming and fine character.
- Etymology
This vineyard belonged to the canons of the chapter of Saint Denis de Vergy. Its origin dates back to the 11th century. It is said that the monks planted vines here as early as 1203.
